Review By Leonardo Flores

Tokyo is a big city. Each special ward of Tokyo has its own unique flavor, characteristics and treasures that one has to walk off the beaten path in order to locate and enjoy. Most travel guides tend to focus on the cultural and general shopping aspects of the host country. This is where Tokyo Underground 2: Toy and Design Culture in Tokyo comes in. If you are a fan and collector of Chogokin, anime, designer toy, tokusatsu and manga toy culture such as myself, Tokyo Underground 2 is a travel guide that focuses on where to find the hole in wall to shopping mall sized shops that cater to the otaku in all of us.

It is 1985. You are at the pub drinking with your close friends like you do every Sunday. Your mates include a former WWII fire service veteran, your pop, a couple of original 1960’s Mods and of course The Gudger. Without any warning in walks a man and proposes a weighty question to your group. “Would you like to buy a racehorse?”

The Tigers Romance In The Milky Way / Flower Necklace 45rpm 5 of 15 ザ・タイガース

The Tigers Romance In The Milky Way / Flower Necklace
Review by Leonardo flores

1968 was not the year of the monkey as previous thought but the year of The Tigers. Not only would The Tigers have five singles released that year, but two albums and their first feature length film The World is Waiting For Us would also contribute to their already legendary catalog. The Tigers Romance In The Milky Way / Flower Necklace would be the double sided hit single for both the LP and the film.

Young Echo / Otome No Inori

Review by Leonardo Flores

Back in 1968 the Japanese electronics firm Toshiba fielded a Walkie Talkie type transceiver called Young Echo. Young Echo was obviously marketed to the youth set as the hip new social device, predating cell phone culture by nearly 40 years. Young Echo also made its way on vinyl as an obscure promo song written by one of GS's premier songwriters.

The Sherry’s Sherry, Come Back / Blue Loneliness
Review By Leonardo Flores

Toshiba Capital’s CP-Series of singles was Toshiba’s dedicated label to Group Sounds and youth related music. Toshiba had many of their biggest GS acts on the Capital imprint including The Golden Cups, Jun Mayuzumi and The Wild Ones. Like all record labels, there were many acts on the label that only had a few releases, which included the GS group The Sherrys, who were one of only five groups that had one release on Toshiba Capital.
